The symposium convened scholars and practitioners to discuss U.S. democracy; it took place on March 5, 2026 in Washington, DC, and was supported by the Sheila Y. Oliver Center for Politics and Race in America at Rutgers University–Newark, the Swarthmore HEARD Initiative, the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, and departments and centers at Johns Hopkins and Boston University.
